Michael Bastasch, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncology physician who practices at UT Health East Texas HOPE Cancer Center in Athens. “I believe in placing the patient first by establishing rapport and building trust. I do that by understanding the person beyond the disease and learning their story, fears and goals.”
Dr. Bastasch’s priority is to maximize each patient’s quality of life while focusing on pain control, nutrition and emotional support. “I try to function like a coach, providing tips and encouragement to the patients and families. Fortunately, my exceptional staff has a therapeutic and uplifting presence.
“Beyond the care provided by the clinical team here, I have found the terrific community and family support provided to patients by the residents of East Texas to be among the best I have ever seen in my career. I am very happy to have the opportunity live in Athens and work with the superb staff at UT Health East Texas.”
To better communicate with his patients, Dr. Bastasch is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Bastasch is employed as a clinical faculty physician at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler under the UT Tyler School of Medicine.
